Bjarne Melgaard's works are characterized by exuberance, provocation and exaggeration; by the chaos of life in today's world. His paintings, sculptures, writings and installations revolve around the essential themes of being human, sexuality, pain and death in all, even the darkest facets. He also deals with self-harm, sadomasochism and fantasies of killing.
Bjarne Melgaard's vivid, expressionistic paintings contain violent gestures, confessional texts, and blatant allusions to pop culture. The artist is never concerned with fulfilling an expectation; he is interested only in what he wants to express. Melgaard has exhibited in New York, London, Oslo, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Vienna, Copenhagen and Rome.
