Chris Killip is one of the most important British documentary photographers. He gained fame primarily for his photographs of the British working class. Chris Killip is from the Isle of Man, and his early work includes his portraits of the island's inhabitants. Since 1991 he has been a professor of Visual and Environmental Studies at Harvard University.
In his highly praised 1988 book of photographs, "In Flagrante," British photographer Chris Killip published photographs of the north of England, which is undergoing a period of economic and social change. Also included: The 15 photographs of his famous series "Seacoal" - one of Chris Killip's long-term projects, for which the British photographer spent over 14 months in a caravan in Lynemouth on the northern English coast.
