Karin Székessy

Karin Székessy is a celebrated German photographer known for her captivating nude photography. Born in 1938 in Essen, Székessy studied photography at the Institute for Photojournalism in Munich from 1957 to 1959. Her works often treaded the line between eroticism and luxury kitsch, but were celebrated for their sophisticated elegance in the art world of 1960s and 1970s Germany. From 1960 to 1966, she worked as a photojournalist for Kristall magazine and was a member of the Werkgruppe Zeitgenossen from 1962 to 1967.

Székessy collaborated extensively with her husband, artist Paul Wunderlich, creating works that were praised for their refined cosmopolitanism. In addition to her collaborations with Wunderlich, Székessy also created around 300 cover photos for Ullstein crime novels from 1984 to 1987. She currently resides and works in Hamburg and southern France. Despite her father being a business lawyer, Székessy found her true calling in the world of photography and went on to become one of Germany's most renowned photographers.
